-Presenters were anxious, they had hard time forming sentences.
-too long and boring character analysis
-too long videos, after some point you lose what it was supposed to tell you.
-presentation overall was long, about 50 mins, a class time.

+good wireless mouse thingy, they did not need to change the slides using the keyboard.
+they had a good outline of what they were going to talk about
+nice interesting points section at the end of the slide
+equal division of work
+2 videos for support

-they messed up with the missing slides
+they apologized for the inconvenience

Section A3

They got excited because they had technical difficulties. They lost their presentation. They explained characters, film good but sometimes I got bored. There was too information, as a result presentation took too much time. They divided work well, but in my opinion it would be better if they took turns and they could get more attention. They showed videos but I were not able to hear it because its volume was very low and videos were too long.

Today's presentation group was consisting of 3 pupils. The time for each person increased normally, compare to other groups. Talking too much influenced their fluency and concentration.
Apparently, they made a comprehensive research about the film. but unfortunately, in my opinion, the information which they found was not presented in a well-organized form.
The background color, red, was a good symbol. Because according to presenters, roses and red color were main symbols representing in film.

group 5's presentation's consisted of very long sentenced slights. except this situation they performed well and they spoke fluently. it was obvious that they organized their work. also they used time very well.

Their film is very effective so they were really lucky=). Also, their presentation was very good. They used their time effectively and they could speak fluency but maybe they could talk about more historical background about american dream. Their scenes from the movie were good parts of the film although sound was not enough to hear=). Thanks all of them.

This time, it was our turn to make presentation. First of all I want to say thank you again to my group members Halil, Salih and to audiences, of course. Indeed, we came together so much to prepare the presentation in order to see and minimize our mistakes. Thanks to god, as a last group, we have chance to analyze and make realistic observations of others. We faced a big problem and it takes really long time to arrange. It was how to use PowerPoint. It was our first time to use it. We had to cope with it and prepare a serious presentation. Here, we made a wide research about PowerPoint tactics. I think, we succeeded and our presentation was clear and easy follow both presentation and slides at the same time. We realized how important to make direct eye contact with audiences so I think, the audiences could fallow the presentation simultaneously and didn’t miss any point. We moved some most important scenes as videos in PowerPoint in order to help audiences in term of envisioning story in their minds easily. It was not a vivid idea but it stamps to the progress of the presentation, in other words it makes it more understandable and explicit. From my perspective, our performance was considerably fascinating in organizing the PowerPoint. Unfortunately, at the end of the presentation the questions were quite challenging and deep which were mostly based on researches about settings. It is of course very hard to analyze video from all perspectives and make researches about each little detail. Although questions were well prepared and showed how well audience fallowed us so they felt themselves in need of asking questions in terms of learning more about some little details. All in all, it enhanced my presentation skills and now I fell more relaxed about making speech to more than few people.

I could not generalize this presentation as good or bad because half of them presented good, but half did not. For the good part, they gave detailed information and presented fluently. But the others seemed like they did not have much to talk about the movie. They also had a problem with their slides. I think they should remain calm and act like it is not a big deal. But instead they got anxious and it distracted my attention.

I am not going to evaluate myself because I do not believe that self evaluations are objective. People indeed are not perfect creatures so our presentation is not perfect. However, this presentation helps me to see mistakes and not to repeat them on the other ones. If there would be a chance to make more presentations, it would be much more beneficial to adjust our former mistakes and to be evaluated that what we have done to improve our skills.

It was our time to prepare for a representation in the class. Our group was group 5 and consisted of Ahmet, Halil and me.Firstly I want to thank my partners who have spent so much time with me in order to form a good job for our session and audience in the class who has watched our presentation carefully and advised some constructive points.
If I start to evaluate our project, I think first of all we have deserved good grades because although all of us Halil, Ahmet and me encountered with a power point presentation first time we have tried to achieve our best. We have spared so much time to overcome possible problems as preparing the project. Moreover we had organized well and spoken fluently without some little lapses of tongue. We additionally used time carefully and properly, everyone in the group was in collaboration with each other that made our project successful.
I should emphasize that we have studied our task carefully and willingly not to do same mistakes that other groups committed. Furthermore, we have established a good eye contact with audience that shows we did not only focused on Sonja, but also on audience during our presentation. These made me happy however I have to acknowledge something that made me unhappy associated with project . Before the project , while Ahmet and me were discussing how we could ready a good session with Sonja, we have understood an advise of her wrongly that enabled us to remove a well-organized part from presentation.
As we were dealing with our task, we have met with some significant difficulties with usage of power point then we have spent a lot of hours to solve this problem as a result we resolved this issue. After that the content of the film which was outside of those we have been familiar with so we have watched film at least 4 or 5 times all together.
Of course, during class time we have learned essential information about how to form a good presentation however the most important factor that we benefited from was our individual and collective efforts in order to learn everything to a dot how we could constitute our best.
Generally, these kind of works always have contributed essential abilities to academic capacity of student so our work also has developed and revealed our capabilities in terms of working with power point and forming a complex presentation.
I recommend future 101/102 students to be aware of what they are doing and allocate the tasks of all members in the group according to their capabilities. If they do it , the presentation would seem much better.

Section B3

Most of the group spoke very fluent English, and they were much calmer than other groups that improved their presentation. The historical background information was good and detailed, but they didn't connect it to film really well. The group work was divided equal among members. Slide design was both readable and with enough pictures to keep attention of the audience. It is negative that one presenter spoke less fluent English and he was more anxious in comparison to other members of group. They could discuss the family's internal struggles more, as the family was the main topic of these presentations.

Section C3
Colours and pictures are hihgly related to movie, organization very well.
Group maintain eye contact and in some parts, examples could be more especially about "materialism". Only protection of sofa make people materialist? Group may give more example about women's behaviour.
Apart from these, presentation is very good: source is relevant, symbols is perfect.

Section B3
Group 5

They presented "East is East". Their film looked interesting and funny. Group 5's presentation's language was OK. All of them had eye contact. They were relaxed, maybe because there were a few spectators at that time. We learned new words like "deindividuation". It was one of the their topics. They put videos on their presentation but we could not hear and watch them because videos were dark and sound was low.

As Salih and Ahmet said we prepared too much for this presentation, collectively and individually, as a result of that our presentation become nice but there were some problems. For example one part of our presentation which is "The message of the film" was to long at slide, I think we should made little sentences for this situation another problem is we did not make a plot summary film which is to important for presentation but as Salih said as a result of some misunderstandings we did not make a plot summary for presentation. However in my opinion whole presentation was good and well prepared, also we used time well and our speech also nice except some grammer and pronunciation. mistakes

Anonymous said...

They had no problems during the presentation, because they were well organized. Every group member followed his slide right on time and gave the information about that. Except for some small pronunciation mistakes, they spoke fluently. However there were two points, which I didn't like. One of them was, that they put long sentences on their slides, especially in 'the message of the film' part. This situation made it difficult to focus on the messages for the audience. Second problem was, that they couldn't give truthful answers to all questions, Sonja asked. I guess, this problem was caused, because they misunderstood some information, as Sonja said.

Their presentation was really different from others because they were both good and bad at the same time literally they started cool but not much for remaining part. They gave detailed analysis and understandable points while their presentation and they talked really calm and fluent except a person. While they were close to end,at the middle of presentation, they became people like who dont know anything about the film and this was different and bad but could be covered. However of course, it cannot be an excuse for their preperation for slides and excitement. To sum up, all presenters made mistakes and most of them could be ignored in my opinion because almost everybody prepared well i think.

Group 5 whose film is ''East is East'' presents their film well enough.Actually it is very clear clue that they do more work on preparation period however I think this detailed work makes organization difficult, therefore they use long writing on their presentation which make following difficult and also they touch upon only certain sides of film which make presentation weaker. On the other hand, they are well organized, have direct eye-contact to audiences, use their voice and time correctly etc.

This week's presentation has many positive and negative aspects. Firstly each presenters studied very well and they are capable of subject. Background color is very suitable for film theme. In addition their accent is very fluent. However character analysis is not comprehensive. Also film analysis is not clear enough. Videos did not show main points about film

Anonymous said...

Group 5 had very good presentation. All members spoke fluently and they did comprehensive research about historical background and the movie. The background colour and the symbols were selected very well. They were both red. And their timing was also good.

I have noticed that the feedback has become more pointed and discerning as we proceeded through the five presentations. You make some really good points that should help your classmates to improve. And your self-evaluations have been very honest and critical as well. Good stuff!

The characters themselves and their relations with each other were well presented and the context was covered as well. There were some boring parts where reading took place rather than a speech. They established permanent eye contacts with the audience which was good. I also think that they could use more scenes, because such film contains very identical scenes. Their struggle to answer the question at the end is also considerably satisfactory i guess.

i expected from group 5 a very effective presentation because they were doing last and they could take advantages of feedback of other presentations. Unfortunately, their presentation was not good enough. some of the members read from a paper and did not use any gestures to focus the audience to the presentation. Also i think they should gave more specific examples about "materialism". However, the information they gave about the film, the background of the presentation was good. using red background was suitable to this movie. They spoke equally so the timing was excellent.

I liked the idea of showing parts from the movie and explaining them. However, i think they put a little bit too much and it bored sometimes to watch some parts which i think not very important in the movie. I also think that their division of work was pretty equal except one student, Halil. I observed his part was shorter then the others'. I also think that their answers to Sonja's questions was too much defensive. Except listening and seeing their problems they tried to defense themselves as if it was an attack to them. And although they had some points to work on it was a good presentation overall.

i think our presentation was not very well because i think i couldnt prepared very well. i am talking about myself only but i learned how to improve doing a presentation after the feedbacks.

Anonymous said...

they seemed well prepared and worked too much on slides. Using long writing on slides didn't seem so nice. But they had fluent and well organized presentation, they used time well.

Anonymous said...

after the technical problems that they had, they lost their concentration.
apart from that, it was not a bad presentation i enjoyed it.

Group 5

They prepared 'East is East'. Their language is OK, they speak very fluently. They are well organized. They did not read from pages during the presentation. They had eye-contact with audiences. They prepared really good character analysis. They adjust their time very well. Also, I like the slide shows.

I really impressed with group 5's presentation. They were very well organized and prepare a very affective slide show. Their speaking is also another positive point of this group. Moreover I found Ahmet's part very exiting. Ahmet did the best job in our class I think. However they also had a problem. They could not answer the Sonja's questions truthfully. But in general they are the best group I've ever seen in ENG 101.

they had some problem with the slides got nervous for that but i think these kind of things can happen and they handled it. maybe instead of doing the presentation one by one it would be better if they mix it up a little bit but they all seemed like contributed enough. although the sound was very low showing some scenes from the movie made it a lot easier for us to fallow and understand but they were a little bit long.another point to improve was that they were moving a lot and blocking the screen while not presenting sometimes i could not even see what was on slide but overall i think they were good

Anonymous said...

I think their presentation was not bad. They put videos on their presentations, it was nice. They were not anxious. They spoke fluently. Their pictures were good. They had eye contact. They did not read from their notes, so it was a positive point for them. They repeated the word “strange” a lot of time, I think it was not good.

Anonymous said...

I think this one was a little bit boring because of the info that they tried to give us about characters. But it was well prepared and there was equal division of work but they could took turns to take audiences interest . It can be a little bit shorter. Also, the videos that we watched were little bit long to watch with full interest. Plus, we could not watch their real presentation.

Anonymous said...

they were lucky because the movie was popular. So we had an idea about the movie and maybe that's why we expected them presenting more interesting points or showing some surprising symbols. Their time sharing was good. Their red and rose relation in their slide was cool.

Section B3-Self Evaluation

I was expecting to get a (B), (B+) or an (A-). It turned out to be a (B).

It was a bad thing to see that the speakers belonging to the class were not their. If we should have brought our own, that would be no problem. Another problem was the brightness of the videos. They looked very dark on the screen but they were perfect on the laptop. I expected some loss of brightness, but not that much. However, I included subtitles in the videos which made them comprehensible.

Our organization was not really well as it seemed. Some of us put in a little(!) more effort and hard work to create the whole thing. Well, that became an experience for further group assignments.

Since our presentation was the last one to go, and the class time to work on the assignments were kind of like a month away from them, our determination for research was naturally very low.

These kind of presentations are very helpful to gain experience and skills of speech. They will be very important in the following years of our lives.

Finally, I have no suggestions for any improvement attempt. =)

Their performance was good, they didnt make most major mistakes other groups did. However i didn't like their colour scheme (maybe because i was sitting behind of classroom) i had an hard time reading the texts.
Also i noticed that they are experincing some technical problems before they start, not a big deal but they could move their power point file to another laptop i think.

It was an effective and good presentation. Timing was also good but the background info could be developed. Whatever, it was a good presentation.

They did some good research about the film and had good fluency while while presenting. The colors and pictures of the powerpoint presentation was very nice and effective. However, character analysis and the concept of materialism could be covered better. They had good timing.
